Historical review

Significant facts:

• In 1959–1960 the research expedition company VNII Geofizika based in the Caspian Sea moved to Gelendzhik.

• In 1961 the first meeting of the Russian marine geophysicist was held at our company's facilities.

• In 1973 the company was named Production Association and then in 1978 we became Scientific & Production Association Yuzhmorgeologiya (YMG).

• During the 1980s — our company experienced a period of intense growth and the accumulation of equipment and the research fleet, thus increasing our scientific potential

• Since 1988 Yuzhmorgeologiya was awarded a status of a Pioneer Investor in the UNO International Seabed Authority for the exploration of the Clarion-Clipperton polymetallic nodules field in the Pacific Ocean.

• The Ministry of Natural Resources gave the status as a state research centre to YMG in 1998.

• In 1999 YMG had the honor to host the 50th anniversary of the Russian marine geophysics on a federal level.

• From 1999-2006 — YMG has been performing comprehensive prospecting of the Magellan Mountains in the Pacific Ocean for cobalt-bearing crusts.
